Rajasthan CM said the Tapukara plant is set to serve as a principal base for Honda's domestic EV operations.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has met Honda Cars India President and CEO Takashi Nakajima to discuss the carmaker's electric vehicle manufacturing ambitions in the state, in what the state government has described as a landmark step towards green industrial development, ANI has reported. The talks, held at the Chief Minister's Office, were focused on Honda's aim to roll out its first EV, the Honda 0 Alpha, from its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The venture involves an outlay of roughly ₹1,200 crore and is on track to enter production before the close of 2026.

State authorities said the project is consistent with Rajasthan's agenda to drive industrial growth and hasten the adoption of cleaner transport alternatives.

"In line with the resolve of the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India for the World', the unveiling of Honda's first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, was done during the meeting with the delegation of Honda Cars India Limited at the Chief Minister's Office," Sharma wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The CM said the Tapukara plant is set to serve as a principal base for Honda's domestic EV operations, bolstering the state's footprint in India's automotive supply chain.

The development builds on diplomatic groundwork laid during Sharma's trip to Japan in September 2024, undertaken in the run-up to the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, when state officials formally extended an invitation to Honda to channel investment into EV manufacturing in Rajasthan.

"As part of the preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, during the Japan visit in September 2024, we invited Honda Cars India Limited to manufacture and invest in EV models in Rajasthan," Sharma said, as per the report.

"I am extremely delighted to share that the production of Honda's first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, is set to begin at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan with an investment of ₹1,200 crore."

Sharma also pointed to the wider social and economic dividends the project is expected to deliver, including the creation of employment opportunities for young people in the region and the cultivation of a specialist workforce in the EV industry.
