Honda Shine 100 DX

The Shine 100 DX is the slightly premium alternative of the Shine 100.

After unveiling the new Honda Shine 100 DX last month, Honda has launched its latest commuter bike in India. The new Honda Shine 100 DX will retail for ₹74,959 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price point, the new Shine 100 DX is ₹6,000 more expensive than the basic commuter bike from the Japanese two-wheeler giant. With the new addition, Honda plans to strengthen its commuter portfolio further as it tries to narrow down the sales gap between itself and its erstwhile partner, Hero MotoCorp.

This focus on commuter bikes is vital for Honda as it hasn’t had much success in the 100-110 cc space, a segment which Hero dominates. The Honda Dream series failed to make the desired impact and Honda’s commuter sales were heavily based on the CB Shine. However, the Shine 100 has been able to make a good impact and the Japanese giant will be banking on the new Shine 100 DX to improve sales in the near future.

The Shine DX gets a revised headlight cowl, the fuel tank shape is also different and so are the graphics. The big update though is the inclusion of a full-digital LCD instrument console, as opposed to the analogue unit as seen on the Shine 100. Mechanically, it’s the same 98.98 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder mill producing the same 7.28 bhp and 8.04 Nm. The Honda Shine 100 DX will compete against the Hero Splendor, TVS radeon and the Bajaj Platina.
