The expanded recall includes a range of Honda models produced between 2017 and 2018.
Honda Cars India has announced a recall campaign to address a fuel pump issue in older units of select models. The company will replace fuel pumps in 90,468 vehicles and an additional 2,204 units where the part had previously been changed as a spare. The recall of models- Amaze, Brio, BR-V, City, Jazz, WR-V and Accord is aimed at preventing potential issues arising from defective impellers in these fuel pumps, which, if left unchecked, could cause the engine to stall or fail to start. This replacement campaign will be carried out free of cost across HCIL dealerships nationwide in a phased rollout starting on November 5, 2024.
Honda Cars India first initiated the voluntary recall after identifying that certain fuel pumps installed in older models might include defective impellers. Over time, the issue could lead to scenarios where the engine may stop unexpectedly or may not start at all, impacting the reliability and safety of the vehicle. This expanded recall, which now covers over 92,000 vehicles, demonstrates Honda’s commitment to proactively addressing potential issues with critical parts that affect vehicle performance.
The expanded recall includes a range of Honda models produced between 2017 and 2018. The following is a detailed breakdown of the affected units:
Model | Production Year | Units Affected |
---|---|---|
Amaze | 19/09/17 - 30/06/18 | 18,851 |
Brio | 08/08/17 - 27/06/18 | 3,317 |
BR-V | 26/09/17 - 14/06/18 | 4,386 |
City | 04/09/17 - 29/06/18 | 32,872 |
Jazz | 04/09/17 - 29/06/18 | 16,744 |
WR-V | 05/09/17 - 30/06/18 | 14,298 |
Accord, Amaze, Brio, BR-V, City, Civic, Jazz, WR-V | Spare parts changed | 2,204 |
Total | 92,672 |
The models affected span a variety of popular Honda cars in the Indian market, including the Amaze, Brio, BR-V, City, Jazz, and WR-V. The company also clarified that 2,204 units where the fuel pump assembly was previously replaced as a spare part are also included in this recall to ensure consistency and consumer peace of mind.
Honda Cars India is taking a proactive approach to reach affected customers. Owners will be contacted individually by the company, but customers can also verify their vehicle’s inclusion in the recall by checking their 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on a dedicated microsite accessible via the Honda Cars India official website. For customers who purchased fuel pump assemblies from authorized Honda dealerships as over-the-counter sales between June 2017 and October 2023, Honda recommends verifying the need for a replacement with their dealership. This includes anyone who may have replaced the fuel pump independently during this period.
