Honda Gold Wing Tour Launch - 2

The problem cited by Honda can lead the motorcycle to stall unexpectedly, which is every rider’s nightmare.

Honda has announced a voluntary recall for its flagship Gold Wing GL1800 touring motorcycle in India. The recall affects bikes manufactured between March 2018 and May 2021. Although the production years might seem many, since the Gold Wing GL1800 retails at ₹46.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it’s quite the premium affair, thereby sales for the same are limited too. While Honda has not revealed the number of affected vehicles that have been recalled, we reckon it shouldn’t be much.

As for the cause of the recall, the Japanese manufacturer has identified a potential problem with the primary drive gear fastening bolt in certain Gold Wing engines. Under specific conditions, this bolt may break, potentially causing the engine to stall unexpectedly – which is a nightmare for any rider, especially when one is cruising at triple digits on the highway.

As a precautionary measure, Honda will replace the affected part free of charge for customers, regardless of the vehicle's warranty status. The repair work will be carried out at Honda's BigWing dealerships across India starting in the third week of December. Owners of eligible Gold Wing models can check if their motorcycle is impacted by entering the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the BigWing website. Honda BigWing dealers will also proactively contact customers to schedule the necessary inspection and repair.
