These two 400 cc scramblers could not be more different than chalk and cheese
Husqvarna has brought the Svartpilen 401 to India. This bike is a long-awaited neo retro-styled version of the KTM Duke 390, catering to those who do want the sporty ride but do not want to associate it with the KTM brand name. And while it does look rugged like a scrambler motorcycle, it has its British step-cousin to go up against in India: the Triumph Scrambler 400X. The latter also fits the bill of a punchy motorcycle with a butch stance. However, which one suits your needs the best?
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is powered by the same KTM-derived 399cc, single-cylinder engine that offers 45.37 bhp with 39 Nm of punch.
The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is equipped with a 398.15cc engine that generates 39.5 bhp of power and 37.5 Nm.
While both give off the dirt-ready vibe, these bikes look quite different with unique styling lines. Husqvarna looks sharp with a lot of straight lines, while the Scrambler has more curves and an old-school appeal. The Scrambler pops out with its contrasting golden USD fork, whereas the Husqvarna has a more subtle approach with the mildly contrasting white offset monoshock.
The headlight is smaller on the Scrambler, which looks more proportionate with the bike. Unlike the last iteration, the headlight unit of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is now larger, and it does appear a bit off.
Both tank designs are drastically different. The Husqvarna tank gives the rider a slim feel, enhanced by the flat but moderately sized handlebar. The rider gets a far wider handlebar and a more bulbous tank on the Scrambler 400X.
The seat on the Scrambler has much more cushioning than the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 seat. It is slimmer and rises up, leaving a lot of unused space.
The wheels on both are completely different. The Triumph has alloys, while the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has spoke wheels. The wheel sizes on the Scrambler are 19-inch front and 17-inch rear. The Svartpilen 401 has both 17-inch spoke wheels. The spoke wheels on the Svartpilen 401 do seem to be an aesthetic choice rather than a functional one.
The Scrambler 400X features a ride-by-wire system enabling switchable traction control. Its hybrid instrument cluster displays essential ride data. Additionally, the motorcycle is equipped with a standard C-type charging port.
The new Husqvarna 401 features a five-inch TFT display. Other features include ride-by-wire and traction control systems. The Supermoto ABS lets you lock up the rear wheel for some stylish slides. In terms of connectivity, the motorcycle offers optional smartphone connectivity.Additionally, the inclusion of a Type-C charging port adds convenience for on-the-go charging of electronic devices.
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is priced at ₹2,92,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Triumph Scrambler 400X is priced at ₹2,62,996 (ex-showroom Delhi). The difference between these bikes is ₹29,004.
Both the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and the Triumph Scrambler 400X are excellent choices for motorcyclists seeking a stylish and capable machine. The Svartpilen 401 presents a modern and minimalist interpretation of the scrambler concept, whereas the Scrambler 400X offers a more classic and traditional aesthetic.
