Hyundai Motor India is set to make a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of the Creta Electric SUV, an all-electric version of its popular Creta nameplate. The Creta EV is positioned as Hyundai’s most affordable electric offering in the Indian market, catering to the rising demand for EVs. The highly anticipated model will make its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo on January 17, 2025.
With an expected price range of ₹15 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Creta Electric aims to attract a diverse audience, bridging the gap between premium and affordable EVs. This pricing positions the SUV below Hyundai's flagship EV, the Ioniq 5, and pits it against competitors like the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv.ev, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.
Hyundai has released a teaser for the Creta Electric, revealing a design that mirrors the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Creta. The Creta Electric retains signature elements such as the headlight and taillight setups while incorporating EV-specific enhancements. These include redesigned bumpers with active air flaps, a closed grille, and aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Creta Electric introduces a twin-screen setup that integrates the infotainment system and instrument cluster, enhanced with updated software and additional functionalities. The SUV also maintains physical controls for HVAC systems, borrowed from the Hyundai Alcazar, ensuring user convenience. A redesigned centre console, drive selector controller, and a three-spoke steering wheel.
The Hyundai Creta Electric prioritizes safety with features such as six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX mounts, and a 360-degree camera. Additionally, the SUV is expected to include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
The upcoming Creta EV is expected to feature a 51.4 kWh and 42 kWh battery packs, although Hyundai has not fully revealed the specs of the EV. But we do know that the Creta Electric will provide 473 km and 390 km depending on the battery size.
