The refreshed Exter brings more than 25 changes spanning design, cabin quality, features and safety.

Hyundai Motor India on Friday launched the updated Exter compact SUV at prices starting from Rs 5.80 lakh and going up to Rs 9.42 lakh (ex-showroom). The refreshed model brings more than 25 changes spanning design, cabin quality, features and safety, while carrying over its existing engine options unchanged.

The Exter has found over two lakh buyers since it first went on sale, and Hyundai has used this update to give the SUV a sharper look, a more upmarket interior and a stronger safety proposition without altering the mechanical underpinnings.

“Since its debut, the Hyundai Exter has received an overwhelming response, earning the trust of over 2 lakh customers across India. With its bold design and segment defining features, Exter has played a pivotal role in reimagining the segment," Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said in a statement.

Design

The exterior has been given a more assertive, upright character. Up front, the grille is wider, the centre garnish is new and the bumpers have been revised. At the rear, updated tailgate and C-pillar garnishes sharpen the profile, and a wing-type spoiler adds a sportier flourish. New 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and more prominent wheel arch cladding round off a more muscular overall stance. Hyundai continues to position the Exter as the tallest SUV in its class with one of the longest wheelbases, which it says benefits both road presence and interior space.

Inside, the cabin has been reworked with a dual-tone navy blue and grey colour scheme and a 3D carbon-pattern finish on the dashboard. A D-cut steering wheel and metal pedals, a first for the segment, add a sportier touch.

Practicality has been addressed through a folding driver's armrest, revised seat upholstery and improved ergonomics, whilst driver's seat height adjustment and adjustable rear headrests are now standard across the range. Boot space stands at 391 litres.

Features

The feature set has been meaningfully upgraded. A segment-first integrated dashcam is among the headline additions, alongside wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a Type-C USB port for rear passengers. The Exter comes with more than 60 connected car functions through Hyundai's Bluelink platform and over 300 embedded voice commands that work without a data connection. An electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster and over-the-air updates for maps and infotainment carry over from the outgoing model.

Powertrain

The mechanical package is unchanged. The Exter continues with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine, available with either a manual gearbox or an AMT. Hyundai notes that it remains the only SUV in this segment to offer a four-cylinder petrol unit, which it credits for a smoother, more refined drive.

The CNG version, sold under the Hy-CNG Duo name, retains its dual-cylinder setup to preserve boot space and now comes with an underbody-mounted spare tyre as standard. Despite this, it still offers 225 litres of usable luggage space.

Safety

Safety equipment has been bolstered, with the updated Exter offering more than 45 safety features in total, of which 30 are standard on every variant. Electronic Stability Control and Hill-Start Assist Control are now fitted as standard across the range, and six airbags are available throughout the line-up.
