Hyundai is expected to enter India’s luxury car market sometime later this year with the Genesis brand.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced the appointment of Madhurendra Malu as Vertical Head – Genesis, effective 16 February 2026. The move forms part of the company’s senior management restructuring and signals a strategic push to strengthen the premium luxury segment in India through the Genesis brand.
Malu’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture as Hyundai prepares to introduce and expand Genesis in the Indian market. With the luxury automotive segment showing steady growth, the company aims to position Genesis as a strong contender by leveraging Malu’s expertise in premium retail strategies and network expansion.
His mandate includes shaping Genesis’ market entry strategy, establishing a luxury-focused retail ecosystem, and enhancing brand positioning to meet evolving customer expectations in India’s high-end automotive space.
With over two decades of experience in the automotive industry, Malu brings a diverse leadership background spanning sales, strategy, and network development. Prior to joining Hyundai, he served at JSW MG Motor India, where he led the launch of the MG Select luxury channel — an initiative aimed at elevating the brand’s premium retail experience.
He also played a key role at Skoda Auto India, spearheading a major expansion of the dealer network, which significantly improved market reach and customer accessibility. Earlier in his career, Malu held multiple leadership roles at Maruti Suzuki, contributing to sales strategy and operational growth during his tenure. An alumnus of Management Development Institute (MDI) in Gurgaon, Malu is recognised for his data-driven approach and deep understanding of consumer behaviour in both mass-market and luxury segments.

Hyundai expects Malu’s expertise to accelerate Genesis’ premium positioning in India. His experience in building luxury retail channels and implementing data-led strategies is likely to support the brand’s focus on personalised customer experiences, curated showrooms, and differentiated ownership journeys. The appointment aligns with Hyundai’s broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and tap into the growing demand for luxury mobility solutions among India’s affluent and aspirational buyers.
