Hyundai Motor India recently announced that it will launch 26 models in India by the end of the financial year 2030 (FY30). These 26 models will include all-new models as well as new generations and facelifts of existing models.
In its latest earnings report, Hyundai highlighted that these 26 models will have 20 internal combustion engine (ICE) models as well as six electric vehicles (EVs). What’s more interesting is that Hyundai has finally confirmed that these new models will also include hybrids. It’s particularly interesting because back in January 2024, we reported that Hyundai India had no plans to bring hybrids to India. Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai India, had said at the time, “We have the technology, it is part of our global line up and if needed we can bring it to India anytime, but we choose not to and that’s solely because it does not make business sense for us.”
It remains to be seen which model will get the hybrid powertrain, but recent reports suggest that it will be an SUV and is likely to launch in India by either 2026 or 2027. Hyundai is also one of the few manufacturers globally to have a hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV), which is called the Nexo. Recently, Hyundai signed a Memorandum of Association (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to study the feasibility of hydrogen fuels in India and provided them with a Nexo for this test. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai will launch the Nexo in India, but it cannot be ruled out entirely, given this recent development.
We expect one of the first few models to launch under this new strategy to be the Ioniq 5 facelift and the new generation of the Venue.
