Intel has provided crucial support and expertise to the companies.
Intel announced today its collaboration with eight leading Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) in India to boost domestic laptop manufacturing. The initiative is aimed at accelerating the Make in India program.
The EMS and ODM companies that Intel has partnered with are Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. For some of these companies, this marks their first foray into manufacturing laptops in India.
Under this collaboration, Intel has provided crucial support and expertise to the companies to enable them to produce complete entry-level laptops domestically. This has included facilitating state-of-the-art SMT lines, setting up quality control processes for components, and benchmarking finished products. Intel has also aided ODMs in both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) manufacturing processes.
According to Intel, this initiative demonstrates its commitment to enable technology-led growth in India in line with the Make in India drive.
Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD, India Region at Intel, said, "Intel has been the fundamental enabler of several electronic ecosystems across the world, and we are excited about fueling the same in India. Bringing in Intel's technology-related investments and global system supply chain ecosystem knowledge exemplifies our dedication to fostering electronic manufacturing capabilities in India. By enabling the laptop manufacturing process – from surface mount technology assembly to finished product – we are not only meeting the demands of the Make in India initiative but also contributing to the technological progress of the nation."
The company will host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit later in November to bring together many local manufacturers and showcase a wide range of devices being manufactured in the country.
