Canada-based international parts manufacturer Magna has set up a new automotive parts factory in Chakan, Maharashtra. This facility will produce latches and mirrors for car manufacturers based out of and currently working in the western region of India. It spans across 65,000 sq. ft and is expected to provide employment to more than 300 people over the next three years.
The plant adds to Magna's significant presence in India, where it already operates 14 manufacturing and assembly facilities, five engineering, product and sales offices. Yesterday’s inauguration was graced by the company’s President, Jeff Hunt. “Our commitment to innovation and operational excellence helps us continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers, delivering high-quality products that drive the future of mobility,” Hunt noted.
This expansion reflects the growing trend of international automotive suppliers strengthening their Indian manufacturing capabilities. The Chakan industrial area is all the more an important location for it has been the hub for several major auto manufacturers in the country. From Bajaj Auto to Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen and even Mercedes-Benz. Magna will have the car manufacturers as its clients in that region primarily.
