Jaguar had planned to reinvent itself with this electric four-door GT, but its debut has been postponed until next year, leaving the brand without a relevant car to sell for now.
Tata Motors-owned Jaguar has postponed the global unveiling of its maiden 4-door electric grand tourer, originally slated for late 2025, to 2026. The flagship EV, pivotal for the brand's revival, faces headwinds from operational disruptions and strategic imperatives.
A severe cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in August 2025 has likely contributed to the setback, inflicting an estimated £1.9 billion loss on the UK economy, according to a study.
The breach forced shutdowns at key JLR plants in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton, alongside a full IT blackout that crippled order processing. Dealerships and supply chains were paralysed, leaving Jaguar with limited recourse but to defer the electric GT's debut.
Jaguar's current lineup stands barren, with no models in active production globally. This is a stark contrast to stablemate Land Rover's expansive SUV offerings, which enjoy strong sales in markets like India and abroad.
The cyber incident has now exacerbated this void, forcing Jaguar to rethink its path to relevance. The incoming electric GT represents a bold pivot to electrification, yet fluctuating demand for premium EVs worldwide poses risks.
Production of the 4-door electric GT will commence in North America in 2026, with subsequent launches in Europe and other regions, including a potential India entry.
To be positioned as a luxury performance GT, it will square off against stalwarts like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, blending Jaguar's signature design flair with new EV tech.
