The new electric scooter concept in Japan could translate to Honda Activa Electric.
Honda introduced the SC e: electric scooter concept at the Tokyo Motor Show also called the Japan Mobility Show. The design resembles the Activa-i sold in India, with sharp lines and full LED lighting. The EM1 e: is powered by two removable batteries, offering a total capacity of around 2.6 kWh.
The concept features a smooth design with no prominent cuts or creases in the body panels. It includes a sizable headlight housing integrated into the front section and rides on 12-inch wheels with perforated disc patterns. The teal-coloured turn indicators and backlighting on the mid-drive motor cover enhance the scooter's eco-friendly aspect. The scooter has a spacious single-piece seat with a full-sized pillion grab handle, foldable pillion foot pegs blending into the bodywork, and a digital instrument console.
The scooter is equipped with two 'Honda Mobile Power Pack e:' batteries, each weighing 10 kg, located under the seat. This arrangement significantly limits the available under-seat storage space. Nevertheless, having two battery packs is expected to provide the SC e: with a real-world range of approximately 100 km. Additionally, it's likely to feature a more potent motor than the EM:1, potentially enabling the scooter to reach a top speed between 60-70 kmph.
It's uncertain if the production version of the Honda SC e: will be available in the Indian market. However, Honda is set to enter the electric two-wheeler market in India in 2024 and plans to introduce a scooter with a swappable battery. Honda has already launched a battery-swap network for three-wheelers in a few locations, and this 'Mobile Power Pack' system will also be integrated into Honda's two-wheelers.
The scooter appears to have telescopic front forks and a mono-shock for damping, with a disc/drum brake setup and 12-inch wheels. Although Honda hasn't confirmed production plans, the concept is anticipated to reach international markets by the end of 2024. However, it's unlikely to be introduced in India soon. Instead, the manufacturer is expected to launch the electric Activa early next year.
