JK Tyre has launched India's first embedded smart tyres for passenger vehicles, featuring dedicated TPMS sensors for monitoring pressure and temperature.
JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has introduced what it describes as India’s first embedded smart tyres for the passenger vehicle (PV) segment. The tyres incorporate sensors within the tyre construction that continuously monitor tyre pressure, temperature and possible air leaks.
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors integrated into the tyre have a claimed operational life of 5-7 years, depending on usage. Data recorded by the sensors is transmitted in real time to a dedicated companion mobile application. The app displays live tyre statistics, including pressure and temperature for each wheel, and sends alerts when any parameter falls outside the recommended range.
The smart tyres are manufactured at JK Tyre’s Banmore facility in Madhya Pradesh. They will be available in the aftermarket through JK Tyre’s dealer network. Initially the company will offer sizes from 14 to 17 inches. The retail price of the smart tyres is **approximately 12 % higher** than the company’s conventional tyres of comparable size.
This launch builds on JK Tyre’s earlier ‘SMART Tyre’ technology introduced in 2019, which used external TPMS sensors together with cloud‑based analytics. In the newly launched version the monitoring system is embedded inside the tyre itself, removing the need for any additional external sensor.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director of JK Tyre, said the move aligns with the company’s focus on technology‑driven mobility and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He noted that, apart from enhancing safety, the smart tyres are designed to offer a longer tread life, improved fuel efficiency and a lower environmental impact.
JK Tyre has previously been credited with introducing radial tyre technology in India. The company states that the embedded smart tyres form part of its continuing effort to integrate digital solutions into its product portfolio.
