The company will launch one more vehicle in 2024
JSW MG Motor India today launched the first car from the joint venture – the MG Windsor EV. And with it, the company is making a strong statement, to concentrate on ideally bringing in new energy vehicles to the country. This means that we will see hybrids, plug-in hybrids and EVs landing on Indian shores every 6 months.
The Windsor EV is the beginning and there are more scheduled to come. Given this strategy we can only assume now that JSW MG Motor India will not be launching pure ICE (petrol/diesel) models, but again, that is the ideal scenario. The company will expand its production capacity in Halol, Gujarat, with a focus on producing NEVs. This will increase the production capacity from the current 1,00,000 plus to up to 3,00,000 vehicles annually.
The MG HS PHEV is a very strong candidate to launch in India
It was in March this year that JSW and MG Motor India announced its joint venture and had announced then that the company will take an innovative route to be successful in the Indian market. In fact, the other part to success here is localisation of parts and that’s what the company is also planning to do.
We do not know yet, which cars will make it to the Indian market, but SAIC (the parent company of MG) has an extensive portfolio of these new energy vehicles to choose from and it’s likely to be one of those.
