Bharat NCAP tested the top-spec HTX+ and mid-spec HTK (O) trims of the Kia Syros.

The new Kia Syros is the latest subcompact SUV to be tested at the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) crash tests. It scored five stars for adult and child occupant protection as Bharat NCAP tested the top-spec HTX+ petrol AT and mid-spec HTK (O) petrol MT variants but said the ratings apply to all variants.

The Syros scored 14.21 points out of 16 in side impact tests.

In adult occupant protection tests, the Syros scored 30.21 points out of a possible 32. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, Kia’s second subcompact SUV scored 14.21 points out of 16. In this test, the driver’s chest, as well as the left and right tibia, had adequate protection, while all other parts of the body had good protection. The passenger had adequate protection for the right tibia, with good protection for all other body parts. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Syros scored 16 out of 16 points, with good protection for all body parts. In the side impact pole test, the Syros received an ‘OK’ score.

The Syros scored 44.42 points out of 49 in the child occupant protection tests. It had a dynamic score, it got 23.42 points out of 24. In the child restraint system (CRS) installation tests, it scored 12 points out of 12, and in the vehicle assessment scores, it received 9 points out of 13. As always, BNCAP tested the Syros with dummies of 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.

The Syros is the fourth subcompact SUV to be crash tested by Bharat NCAP.

Bharat NCAP has tested three more subcompact SUVs, the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO, and all of them also got a five-star rating. The Kylaq has the highest rating in adult occupant protection tests (30.88 points out of 32) and in the child occupant protection tests (45 points out of 49). The Syros has the second-highest score in the adult occupant protection and child occupant protection tests.
