The previous edition of KTM’s flagship ADV offering has a lot oomph on hand.

KTM is back with a bang with bikes in India with the 1290 Super Adventure S launched at ₹22.74 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against the likes of the BMW R 1300 GS, the Ducati Multistrada V4, and the Triumph Tiger 1200 range.

Powering the bike is the previous-gen 1,301 cc LC8, V-twin mill, which churns out 158 bhp and 138 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox, along with a slip-and-assist clutch, and a bidirectional quickshifter available as standard.

Given that this is the brand's flagship adventure bike in India, it comes loaded to the brim with premium components. For starters, the trellis frame here is suspended by a 48 mm WP semi-active USD fork and semi-active shock absorber. Braking duties are carried out by two 320 mm diameter discs at the front clasped by radially mounted 4-piston calipers. Lastly, with a 23-litre fuel tank, the KTM 1290 Adventure S certainly has one of the largest fuel tanks on motorcycles in the country.

Design-wise, this adventure tourer is characterised by a massive angular headlight design, which is atypically KTM-style. The half-fairing design might not have a lot of cuts and creases, but the way KTM has sculpted it around that large tank makes the bike look bigger and taller.

On the features front, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S gets keyless ignition, and all-LED lighting all around (obviously). Its latest 6-axis IMU keeps the bike's traction control, slip regulation, engine braking and off-road ABS, under check. It also gets four ride modes as standard – Rain, Street, Sport and Off-road – along with that KTM is also offering the 1290 Super Adventure S with an optional Rally mode. The controls to all of these features can be accessed by the 7-inch TFT dash, which supports Bluetooth connectivity and, therefore, also displays turn-by-turn navigation, music, call/SMS alerts and much more. There’s also a radar-based cruise control thrown in to the mix as well.

We wished that KTM had brought the more powerful and latest 1390 Super Adventure S and S EVO. The 1290 Super Adventure R is a generational older model, and while we aren’t complaining much about its arrival, it would be worth watching when KTM decides to bring the larger 1390s to India.
