After we exclusively broke the news that KTM will be launching a new entry-level 160 cc Duke, the Austrian brand today officially took the wraps off the new 160 Duke. Priced at ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it is quite an expensive option especially when you compare it against its main rival, the Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 starts from ₹1.69 lakh, and the top-spec Connectivity version with all the bells and whistles will set you back by ₹1.80 lakh (both ex-showroom prices, Delhi) . But from a performance point of view, the new KTM 160 Duke boasts of better figures.
For starters, the new 160 cc engine is based on the KTM 200 Duke’s motor and is an underbored version. It produces 18.74 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. For reference, the Yamaha MT-15 is powered by a smaller 155 cc engine that produces 18.2 bhp and 14.1 Nm.
The KTM 160 Duke looks like the KTM 200 Duke, and that is primarily because both share the same platform. Thereby, the hardware components are the same. The split-trellis structure is supported by a USD fork and a monoshock with 138 mm and 161 mm of travel, respectively. Braking duties are carried out by 320 mm/230 mm discs at both ends, with dual-channel ABS.
Despite being an entry-level bike, KTM has not skimped on any features like it did with the erstwhile KTM 125 Duke. The 160 Duke comes with an LCD console that supports smartphone connectivity and therefore the usual plethora of turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts and music controls are all available here.
Bookings for the new KTM 160 Duke is up for grabs, both online and in dealerships, and deliveries for the same will start soon. Each bike will be available with a 10-year extended warranty instead of the standard 2-year warranty offered on all KTM bikes.
