The thoroughly uprated KTM adventure bikes now come packed with more power, better features, and a stance that will be hard to ignore.
Following its successful preview at India Bike Week 2024, KTM has now officially introduced its new-generation 390 Adventure bike. It will be available in two distinct variants: the base 390 Adventure X and the feature-rich standard 390 Adventure. The former has been launched at ₹2,91,140, while the latter with all the bells and whistles, will set you back by ₹3,67,699 (both ex-showroom price, India)
Both are powered by KTM's latest LC4c 399 cc engine that produces 45.37 bhp and 39 Nm. The manufacturer has also optimised the gearing specifically for adventure riding, distinguishing it from its Duke counterpart with which it shares its powertrain. The standard variant offers three riding modes - Rain, Street, and Off-road - along with cruise control functionality. Not to forget, it will also get cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control and a bidirectional quickshifter as standard. The X trim takes a more minimalist approach with ABS as part of its electronic rider aid suite and an Off-Road ride mode.
Beyond that KTM has tweaked the frame too and while the basic trellis architecture has been retained. KTM says that the chassis now weighs less and is more stiffer than before. But interestingly the new gen bikes have become heavier. The standard KTM 390 Adventure tips the scale at 183 kg, while the 390 Adventure X weighs just 1 kilos less at 182 kg.
Further distinguishing these two variants are their cycle parts. The standard trim features 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoke wheels shod with Apollo Trampler tyres. The X variant comes with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels making it ideal for on-road behaviour. Both motorcycles utilise WP Apex suspension components, including a 43mm front fork and rear monoshock. However, the standard variant offers full adjustability options for compression and rebound, and the rear shock is rebound and preload adjustable monoshock. The 390 Adventure X has the preload adjustable monoshock as the only standard options.
The technology package also differs between the trims. Despite sharing the same 5-inch TFT console, the standard 390 Adventure gets the benefit of smartphone connectivity, while the X trim doesn’t. Hence why, the 390 Adventure X will not display turn-by-turn nav, music playback control and call/SMS alert.
KTM dealerships across India have begun accepting bookings for both variants, and deliveries are expected to commence soon. We would have loved to see the even more hardcore 390 Adventure R grace our market, but we’ll have to make do with the KTM 390 Enduro R, which will launch in a couple of months.
