Even though it isn’t the most hardcore version, it still looks pretty capable
KTM’s 390 Adventure has to be one of the hottest launches of 2024 and there has been a fresh sighting of it on our roads. Likely to be the 390 Adventure SMT variant, KTM is perhaps expanding its adventure offering into the fun-to-ride segment.
What one can instantly spot from the spied video is just how different the subframe and swingarm looks to the third-gen Duke. It still sports the 399 cc engine from the Duke and it is likely to arrive in an unchanged state of tune, pumping out 46 odd horses and 39 Nm. However, different sprocketing and tyre sizes will lend it a slightly different riding experience.
Even the Duke’s fuel tank seems to have grown for the upcoming Adventure, as we guess it will pack around a litre or two of more fuel on board. The tank extensions though aren’t quite as pronounced, as the bike has now got a far more capable enduro-rally-bike feel.
Thankfully, we think that this version is likely to either be the entry-level SMT or, given the deceiving camera angle, the regular standard variant, not the hardcore rally/R trim. Hence, while one can spot spokes currently on the bike, it is likely only for testing purposes. Expect the final version to hopefully run on alloys for both of these trims, enabling extra convenience and safety in case of punctures.
Hence depending on the trim, the front could be either a 17-incher or a 19-inch option. For both of the lower trims, KTM is likely to employ a 17-inch rear wheel only.
While we anticipate the spotting of the more off-road focused R trim, we can fairly say that KTM wants to ruffle up some feathers in the sub-500 cc adventure space with its updated offering. If it turns out to be just as exciting as the Duke and yet as capable and friendly for touring and soft-roading, its rivals better watch out.
Although the exact timeline is unsure, we think it will arrive by the end of the year. Could Bajaj and KTM want to cash in on the festive period? Wouldn’t that make Diwali something special?
