The KTM 990 RC R was originally planned as a 2025 model, but its production was delayed due to the brand’s financial crisis.
KTM has launched the 990 RC R, marking its return to the large-capacity supersport segment after years. The motorcycle is priced at $13,949 (approximately ₹12.38 lakh) in the United States.
The 990 RC R is powered by a 947 cc parallel-twin engine delivering 128 bhp and 103 Nm. Based on the 990 Duke platform, the engine has been retuned with modified mapping and exhaust for improved throttle response and stronger top-end performance.
The bike retains KTM's steel trellis frame and features an aluminium swingarm with fully adjustable WP Apex suspension. Twin 320mm front discs and a single 240mm rear disc, supported by a six-axis IMU, handle braking.

Electronics include traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and four riding modes: Rain, Street, Sport, and Performance. An optional Track pack is also available. The bike comes with an 8.8-inch TFT display offering smartphone connectivity and race telemetry.
The design features aerodynamic fairings with integrated winglets on the side panels and a tall tail section. Riders can adjust footpeg and lever positions for different riding conditions.
Originally planned as a 2025 model, but the brand’s financial crisis delayed its production thus marking its advent as a 2026 model year. Its full-scale production has begun from October 2025.
The KTM 990 RC R is unlikely to be launched in India. Those seeking similar performance can consider alternatives like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, which offers comparable capabilities with an inline-four engine. The 990 RC R serves as a spiritual successor to the KTM 1190 RC8, though in a smaller displacement package. Unlike the track-only RC 8C, the 990 RC R is road-legal.
