KTM has announced a worldwide recall of several bike models, the 2024-2026 KTM 390 Duke, and the 2025-2026 KTM 390 Enduro R, SMC R, Adventure R, and Adventure X. The company says an immediate software update for the engine control unit is needed to ensure safety, performance, and rider confidence.

The issue is potential engine stalling at low rpms, which KTM says it has observed in “only a limited number of cases”, after extensive internal testing. Although it terms the condition as “rare”, the company wants to mitigate any potential risk to rider safety. The issue can be corrected with a software update to the engine control unit (ECU), which will need to be applied by an authorised service provider. The service will be carried out at no charge to bike owners.

KTM, which is now under the full control of Bajaj Auto, cites the need for a recall as “decisive action to eliminate any potential risk and uphold the highest standards of performance and safety”. The software update “significantly reduces the risk of engine stalling, particularly at low speeds or during deceleration, while also improving rideability with improved low-end torque and increased engine stability”.

Registered owners can check whether their bikes are affected, by visiting the “Service” page on KTM’s official website. They will also receive a notification from KTM, and can visit any of the authorised dealers listed on the same web page to arrange the service appointment.
