Long Wheelbase Audi Q5L Goes Official

Audi, through its FAW-Audi joint venture in China, has officially launched the third-generation Audi Q5L in China, introducing a longer body, and upgraded technology. Compared to the global Q5, the China-spec Q5L is stretched by 125 mm, reinforcing Audi’s focus on rear-seat comfort and advanced features for its largest market.

The new Q5L is built on Audi’s latest Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture. While its overall styling mirrors the global model, the China-only version receives several unique design elements, including semi-hidden door handles and a high-mounted brake light. Buyers can choose from black, green, white, silver and brown exterior finishes.

Dimensionally, the Q5L measures 4,842 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,660 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,945 mm. This makes it 72 mm longer than the outgoing generation and significantly longer than the standard Q5 sold globally. Despite the increased size, the SUV continues to offer a five-seat layout.

One of the biggest upgrades comes in the technology package. The Q5L features Huawei-developed advanced driver assistance systems, supported by two LiDAR sensors.

Optional assisted driving functions include automatic parking recognition and navigation-assisted driving on both highways and urban roads. Lighting tech is equally advanced, with headlights featuring 16 high-beam zones and taillights made up of 266 individual LEDs.

Inside, the cabin adopts Audi’s latest digital layout, with a triple-screen setup comprising an 11.9-inch instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch OLED central touchscreen and a 10.9-inch passenger display. A 13.1-inch head-up display is also offered. Additional features include wireless charging, ambient lighting, heated seats and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

India already has successful long wheelbase luxury models, including the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. While this FAW-Audi model is unlikely to reach Indian shores, introducing long-wheelbase Audi cars locally could help the brand regain momentum.
