For the first time in the company's history, a made-in-India car has been exported to Japan
Honda Cars India has launched the made-in-India Elevate compact SUV in Japan. The brand name however, is different and in the Japanese market the Elevate wears the ‘WR-V’ badge.

It is for the first time in HCIL’s business that a model is being exported from India to Japan. Honda’s decision to export the Elevate from India to Japan underscores the company’s confidence in developing and manufacturing process of India. Mind you, Acko Drive too awarded the TOTM Elevate as the Best Compact SUV of 2024 and this was also because of the quality of the product that Honda managed to create here in India.
Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “Launch of the 'Made-in-India' Elevate as WR-V in Japan is a proud moment for all of us. This reaffirms our manufacturing potential and growing importance of Honda Cars India in Honda’s global business strategies.”
Honda has already sold 30,000 units of the Elevate in India and the demand is increasing.
In comparison to the Elevate, the WR-V gets an all-black interior while the Indian model gets a black and brown interior. Furthermore, the WR-V gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, whereas the Elevate gets either an 8-inch or a 10.25-inch unit, depending on the trim. Along with a different user interface (UI) which could have country-specific content, the WR-V's infotainment unit also gets different physical controls which include a volume knob. The WR-V also misses out on features like a sunroof and a wireless charger.
