In a major milestone for Maruti Suzuki, the Fronx has become the fastest Indian SUV to reach the 1 lakh export mark, achieving this feat in just 25 months since exports began in June 2023. Manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, the Fronx has now been shipped to over 80 countries, including key international markets such as Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and notably Japan.

Maruti Suzuki revealed that the Fronx was also the highest-exported passenger vehicle from India in FY 2024-25, with over 69,000 units dispatched during the financial year. This underscores its popularity not just in the domestic market but globally as well.
Maruti Suzuki has consistently dominated India’s export landscape. According to SIAM data, the company has been the top passenger vehicle exporter for four consecutive financial years. In FY 2024-25 alone, it exported over 3.3 lakh vehicles, marking a 17.5% year-on-year growth, its highest-ever exports in a single fiscal.
In Q1 of FY 2025-26, Maruti exported over 96,000 vehicles, accounting for 47% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports, the highest market share ever recorded by the brand. Maruti currently exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, with top destinations including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. Apart from the Fronx, other top-performing export models include the Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire.

While Maruti Suzuki leads the export race, Hyundai Motor India continues to be a strong second. Hyundai exports popular models like the Verna, i20, and Creta to over 85 countries. Its Chennai plant has long served as a key global hub for small car production. Hyundai crossed the 3 million cumulative export mark in 2020, underscoring its scale and consistency in overseas shipments.

Meanwhile, Nissan India has also carved out a noteworthy export niche with the Magnite. Manufactured at its Oragadam plant in Tamil Nadu, the Magnite, launched in late 2020, has become Nissan’s global volume driver. In 2024, Nissan announced it had exported over 1.5 lakh units of the Magnite, reflecting its success in markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
While the Magnite boasts strong cumulative export figures, it is the pace of the Fronx’s export growth, 1 lakh units in just over two years, that sets a new benchmark in India’s SUV export story.
The Fronx’s rapid export success feeds directly into India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. As global demand shifts toward more cost-effective and resilient supply chains, India’s automotive industry has stepped up, delivering high-quality vehicles at competitive prices to both emerging and developed markets.

Speaking at the 2025 TOTMs, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The Fronx has seen remarkable success in the Japanese market, which gave us the confidence to manufacture it in India and export it to our home market in Japan. Since its launch, the car has been well received by customers, and that positive sentiment has been echoed by local automotive journalists. Their validation has further strengthened our belief in the product and its global appeal.”
