Maruti Suzuki has achieved a new significant milestone, producing two million cars in one calendar year. Maruti Suzuki is now the first manufacturer in India to achieve this production milestone. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki said it is also the first subsidiary under Suzuki Motor Corporation to achieve this milestone.
The two millionth car produced by Maruti Suzuki was an Ertiga MPV, that rolled out of the production line at the brand’s Manesar, Haryana facility. Along with the Ertiga, the Baleno, Fronx, Wagon R and Brezza comprised the top five cars manufactured in 2024.
Furthermore, nearly 60 per cent of the two million cars were manufactured in Manesar and Gurugram (combined), with 40 per cent being produced in Hansalpur, Gujarat. Combined, Maruti Suzuki has an annual production capacity of 2.35 million units and plans to expand to 4 million units by the financial year 2030-31 (FY30-31). To help achieve this goal, Maruti Suzuki is building its fourth manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, which will be operational in 2025 and will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units. Once fully operational, Maruti Suzuki plans to have an annual production of 1 million units in the Kharkhoda plant. Another facility, with a targetted output of 1 million units, is being explored and a suitable location is being identified, Maruti Suzuki said.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said, “The 2 million production milestone is a testament to India’s manufacturing potential and our dedication to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This achievement reflects our commitment, alongside our supplier and dealer partners, to driving economic growth, supporting nation-building, and making India’s automobile industry self-reliant and globally competitive. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our customers, employees, and value chain partners for their continued support and for being an integral part of this historic journey.”
Recently, Maruti Suzuki crossed the 3 million cumulative export milestone. The brand’s export business commenced in 1986 and now exports to nearly 100 countries across the globe.
