Made-in-India Mercedes-Maybach GLS Launched At ₹2.75 Crore

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS ultra-luxury SUV is now locally assembled in India, and has been launched at a price of ₹2.75 crore. This makes the Maybach GLS a healthy ₹42 lakh more affordable than the fully imported version, which retailed at ₹3.17 crore. Alongside the new locally assembled model, Mercedes-Benz India also launched the new Maybach GLS Celebration Edition priced at ₹4.10 crore. All prices are ex-showroom, India.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is now being locally assembled at the automaker’s facility in Chakan, Maharashtra. This makes India the first market outside of the USA to locally produce the Maybach GLS. The company says its decision to assemble the model in India showcases the strong demand for the model, and a testament to India’s strategic importance as one of the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach. The local assembly allows for lower taxation, thereby reducing the price significantly, along with faster delivery timelines.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS gets a dual-tone paint finish, while the vertical slat grille is finished in chrome. The luxury SUV rides on 23-inch Maybach five-hole forged wheels. Powering the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine tuned for 549 bhp and 770 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Power goes to all four wheels and 0-100 kmph can be achieved in 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.

On the feature front, the Maybach GLS comes equipped with a 1,610-watt 3D Burmester surround sound system with 29 speakers and customizable Dolby Atmos sound. It also gets seat climate control, multi-contour seats with massage, a 9.6-litre refrigerated unit in the armrest, bespoke flute holders for Maybach champagne flutes, and all-round monitoring with anti-theft alarm and emergency key deactivation. The SUV also comes with the E-Active body control, which enhances the ride quality, handling and off-road capability.
