While the results aren’t out yet, the e Vitara has been listed on Euro NCAP’s website.
Will the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki e Vitara get a 5-star crash test rating from Euro NCAP? Well, that’s only a prediction, but it is for sure that the European automotive safety watchdog might soon release the crash test rating for the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV).
Before Euro NCAP releases the results for any car, it is listed on the website to hint that the results should be expected anytime soon. The e Vitara, which will be listed as the Suzuki e Vitara, also falls under the same category. It’s not known whether Euro NCAP has already crash tested or will do so any time soon.
Now on to the question if the e Vitara will have a 5-star rating? Historically, at Euro NCAP, other Vitara models have scored decently. In 2015, the Suzuki Vitara (which was never available in India) got a 5-star rating, while the 2002 and 2007 Grand Vitara models had a 3-star and 4-star rating, respectively. These Grand Vitara models came to India as completely built units (CBU) imports. Notably, all three models were tested under older regimes, as all NCAPs frequently updated their testing protocols to keep up with emerging safety standards and technologies.
The e Vitara will be manufactured by Maruti Suzuki at its plant in Gujarat and will be exported worldwide. It will come with many safety features like seven airbags, ADAS and a monocoque chassis with 50 per cent high tensile strength steel. The e Vitara will also have a Toyota version, called the Urban Cruiser EV, which will also be built at the same plant in Gujarat. It’s highly likely both will have the same crash test rating since both will share almost every mechanical and safety component.
