Charge_iN, Mahindra’s EV charging network, will roll out new high-speed 180 kW charging points at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) fuel stations across India. The move comes as Mahindra has launched and updated several electric SUV models, with more to come. The company is aiming to boost the availability of fast chargers and reduce waiting times, making EV ownership more practical and attractive.
The 180 kW charging points will all be dual-gun units. With over 24,400 retail fuel stations across India at strategic locations, HPCL’s network will give Mahindra significant reach. The companies have not yet confirmed how many chargers will be set up, what the timeframe for deployment, or the scope of their investments. HPCL already operates over 5,400 EV chargers under its own e-Charge brand.
The agreement aligns with the Government of India’s national electrification strategy, making EV charging quicker and more convenient. Using existing fuel stations allows both companies to offer rapid charging plus related facilities. With 180 kW capacity, the upcoming charging points will cater to premium electric car models that support rapid charging.
Previously, Mahindra had announced plans to set up 250 charging stations with up to 1,000 guns along major roadways by the end of 2027. The company had targeted 180 kW chargers, but with up to four guns each. Charging capacity can be shared between multiple cars plugged into the same charger. The plans included wayside amenities for travelers, including cafes, restrooms, and convenience shops.
Charge_In stations use Mahindra's Me4U app for location discovery and payments. They can be used by owners of other manufacturers' EVs.
In addition to the recently launched mass-market XEV 9s and XUV 3XO EV, Mahindra has introduced the BE 6 Formula E Edition and BE 6 Batman Edition for niche audiences. Upcoming electric models have also been rumoured or shown off in concept form, including a likely BE 07 and BE 09 on the Inglo platform, Thar.E, and future models based on the Nu platform, inspired by the Vision.S, Vision.X, Vision.T, and Vision.SXT concepts.
