The company increased its monthly production capacity from 4,000-5,000 units to 8,000 units by March 2026.

Mahindra & Mahindra has sold 41,000 units of its electric SUVs in the first 10 months since deliveries commenced in March 2025, the company announced at an investor meeting on February 11, 2026. The sales include the XEV 9e and BE 6 models, which were launched in November 2024.

Tata Motors remains the leader in the Indian electric vehicle market with 7,852 units sold in January 2026, holding a 43.52 per cent market share. The company achieved a record monthly sales figure, driven by the launch of the Harrier EV alongside the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and Punch EV. In calendar year 2025, Tata sold 1.76 lakh electric vehicles, maintaining its position as the market leader.

JSW MG Motor India secured the second position with retail sales of 51,387 units in 2025, with the MG Windsor EV crossing the 50,000-unit sales milestone. Mahindra recorded retail volumes of 33,513 units in 2025, marking a five-fold increase compared to the previous year.

Mahindra has ramped up production at its Chakan plant to meet the demand for its electric SUVs. The company increased its monthly production capacity from 4,000-5,000 units to 8,000 units by March 2026. The Chakan facility has a peak production capacity of 10,000 units per month.

The company has established a capacity to produce 90,000 electric vehicles per annum at the Chakan facility, which will manufacture the BE6, XEV 9E, E8, and Rall-E models on the INGLO platform. Mahindra plans to increase its installed capacity to 12,000 units by March 2026, with 8,000 units operational, and further expand to 18,000 units by the end of FY27.

The sales of 41,000 units in 10 months translates to an average of 4,100 units per month. The production ramp-up indicates the company is preparing to nearly double its operational capacity to match the demand for its electric SUVs.
