Mahindra is set to announce the prices for its highly anticipated 5-door Thar Roxx, on August 15, 2024, marking a key step forward for the company. The new Mahindra Thar Roxx will rival the Force Gurkha 5-door and even the Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the compact off-road SUV segment.
One of the most important design changes in the Thar Roxx is the new 6-slat grille, instead of the 7-slat design. The new grille is not just a cosmetic update but part of a broader redesign that includes new LED projector headlights with integrated C-shaped LED DRLs. The Thar Roxx is built on Mahindra’s new 3G platform, which also underpins the Scorpio-N. This enabled the company to reduce the overall weight of the car by 40 kg, without compromising the structural integrity through the use of advanced high-strength steel, particularly in critical areas like the pillars. The Thar Roxx features an all-metal body shell, including a full metal hard top.
Inside, the Mahindra Thar Roxx features a dual-tone black-and-white colour scheme, with seats upholstered in white leatherette, accented by copper stitching on the dashboard. The SUV is also expected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s display, both measuring 10.25 inches. These feature automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats.
The Thar Roxx is expected to come equipped with 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold and descent control. The Thar Roxx may also introduce more advanced safety technologies such as a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx sits on an independent front suspension setup with double wishbones, along with a multilink rear setup with Watts linkage. Mahindra’s ‘Frequency Dependent Damping’ technology is also expected to be part of the package.
The Thar Roxx is expected to carry forward the engine options from the current Thar, including a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. However, these engines may be tuned to deliver more power to suit the larger and potentially heavier Thar Roxx. It will have the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, along with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations available.
