The all-new Mahindra XEV 9e will make its global debut in India on November 26.
Mahindra is poised to make significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the imminent launch of its XEV 9e, a premium electric SUV. Alongside the BE 6e, the XEV 9e represents the company's focus on electrification and advanced vehicle platforms as part of its "Born Electric" strategy. We check out what the XEV 9e brings to the table and how it stacks up in the competitive EV space.
The Mahindra XEV 9e is expected to deliver a bold, futuristic design that aligns with its concept revealed in 2022. While its body panels draw inspiration from the XUV700, it distinguishes itself with a coupe-style profile, giving it a sleek and contemporary look. It comes with connected LED lighting, flush door handles, alloy wheels, and a sloping roofline.
The XEV 9e is built on the INGLO skateboard architecture, developed collaboratively by Mahindra and Volkswagen. Unlike the XUV700, this platform is fully dedicated to EVs, offering structural and functional benefits such as an Integrated Battery Pack and supporting front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel drive configurations.
Spy images and teasers of the XEV 9e’s cabin reveal a focus on technology and luxury. A triple-screen dashboard dominates the interior, as well as ambient lighting, an illuminated console, and a panoramic glass roof. The SUV is expected to come loaded with tech features such as wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, ventilated seats, and a high-quality sound system.
Safety will be a key focus for the XEV 9e, incorporating modern active and passive measures such as Level 2 ADAS and enhanced structural safety thanks to the INGLO architecture, 360-degree camera, and sensors.
The battery performance is expected to be a major selling point for the XEV 9e. The vehicle will come with two battery options: a 59 kWh battery and a 79 kWh battery with a WLTP range of up to 450 km. The LFP battery chemistry prioritises safety and durability over traditional lithium-ion alternatives. The new EV will also support DC fast charging up to 175 kW, recharging the battery from 20 to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes.
