Fronx Gets Safer Across the Range

With the inclusion of six airbags as standard, the Fronx joins a growing list of Maruti models that are receiving safety-focused updates. Previously available only in higher variants, the frontal and side curtain airbags will now be fitted across all trims, making the subcompact SUV safer for both domestic and international customers. While the manufacturer has not released variant-wise revised pricing, the average 0.5 per cent hike translates to a few thousand rupees across the trim levels.

The Fronx is based on Maruti’s Heartect platform, offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. The move is expected to improve its appeal among safety-conscious urban buyers and families, especially in a segment where rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO already offer 6 airbags in top variants. The Toyota Taisor, on the other hand, comes with 6 airbags only on higher trims, while lower trims receive 4 airbags. Will we see Toyota change that- yes. And we’ll soon have an announcement from the company as well, given that both cars come off the same assembly line at Suzuki's Gujarat plant.

Comparative Perspective in the Segment

This could further boost the export appeal of this vehicle as well. After all, proper safety is often a necessity in export markets. To reiterate, the Fronx recently achieved the 1 lakh export milestone, while in FY 2024-25, it had become the most exported passenger vehicle from India, with more than 69,000 units shipped worldwide.

Part of a Broader Safety Strategy

The decision to make six airbags standard on the Fronx comes in line with other key model updates on other high-volume models of Maruti Suzuki. The XL6 had a safety update earlier this week as well, with six airbags being made standard and prices rising by 0.8 per cent. On July 16, the carmaker announced similar updates for the Ertiga and Baleno. While the Baleno witnessed a moderate 0.5 per cent price hike, the Ertiga was given the steepest rise of 1.4 per cent because of its bigger size and seating arrangement.
