Maruti Suzuki has opened two new automated driving test tracks (ADTTs) in Uttarakhand. The facilities have been opened in Haridwar and Rishikesh, while one facility already exists in Dehradun.
The new ADTTs will cater to driving licence tests for light motor vehicles (LMVs) as well as two-wheelers. The ADTTs will have facilities for testing for reverse parallel parking, 8-formation, hill gradient and traffic junction tests, as well as a dedicated testing place for two-wheelers. The ADTTs will also have HD cameras and automated evaluations, not requiring any human intervention.
Brijesh Kumar Sant (IAS), Secretary Transport, Uttarakhand Government, said, “We are committed to making Uttarakhand's roads safer, and Maruti Suzuki's ADTTs are an important enabler in this direction. Our association with Maruti Suzuki goes back to 2009, when the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research was established in Dehradun. With the comprehensive evaluation at ADTTs, we can ensure that only skilled drivers get a driving license.”
Maruti Suzuki also trains and provides refresher courses for commercial vehicle drivers every year ahead of the Char Dham Yatra (holy pilgrimage) in Uttarakhand. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki, said, “This prepares the drivers for hilly terrains on yatra route. This training is one of the qualifiers for the mandatory Green Card required for all commercial drivers during the yatra. This year, we plan to cover about 11,000 drivers in the refresher driving training at the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs).”
