Maruti Suzuki WagonR hits 35 lakh production milestone across three generations; global sales top 1 crore, remains India's top seller for four years.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached a production total of 35 lakh units for its WagonR hatchback across three generations. Launched in December 1999, the model joins the Alto and Swift in achieving this figure. The WagonR is produced at the company's plants in Gurgaon and Manesar, Haryana.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the milestone reflects customer trust over 25 years. He noted that the vehicle has evolved with new technologies while keeping its core design, including tall-boy styling, space, and fuel efficiency.

Globally, the Suzuki WagonR debuted in Japan in September 1993 as a mini wagon. It is made in Japan, India, Hungary, and Indonesia, and sold in over 75 countries. In August 2025, global sales exceeded 1 crore units.

In India, the WagonR has adapted to market needs, maintaining focus on comfort. The current version uses the fifth-generation HEARTECT platform with six airbags standard, ABS with EBD, and ESP on select variants. It includes a 17.78 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and voice commands.

The WagonR has also been India's top-selling car for the past four financial years, per SIAM reports.
