Mercedes-Benz India To Launch Updated Maybach S-Class On October 5

Mercedes-Benz India will launch the updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class on October 5 in Gurugram, the company said, with the flagship saloon positioned in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration as part of its "powertrain-agnostic" push in the country.

The updated Maybach S-Class was revealed globally in Beijing in March, roughly two months after the standard S-Class facelift's world premiere in Stuttgart. Design changes include a larger, illuminated grille with backlit Maybach lettering, twin-star headlamps with rose-gold accents, and a glass-effect MBUX "Superscreen" that runs the brand's newer software stack with generative-AI voice assistance.

Globally, the range spans a revised V8 petrol, a V12 in select markets, and a plug-in hybrid variant, the S 580 e, which Mercedes has said carries a system output in the region of 580 hp and an electric-only range of close to 100 km on some cycles. India-specific specifications, battery capacity and pricing for the Maybach PHEV have not been officially detailed, and it remains unclear whether the version being launched here mirrors the global spec.

The launch would mark Mercedes-Benz India's second plug-in hybrid rollout this year, after it introduced the S 450e — the standard S-Class's first PHEV variant in India — in June, priced from ₹2.20 crore ex-showroom. Executives have repeatedly framed hybrids as a bridge for luxury buyers not yet ready to go fully electric, even as the company continues to sell petrol, diesel and battery-electric models alongside them.

The timing follows a strong run for Mercedes-Benz in India's ultra-luxury segment. The company retailed just over 19,000 units in 2025, retaining its position as the country's top-selling luxury carmaker, with top-end models — including the S-Class and Maybach range — growing faster than the overall portfolio. India has also become one of Maybach's five largest markets worldwide, with the sub-brand's volumes rising sharply over the past two years, prompting Mercedes-Benz to begin local production of the Maybach GLS at its Chakan plant.
