Pre-bookings for one of these upcoming models have already commenced.
At the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB, the Indian arm of the German manufacturer confirmed that the brand will be bringing in two more EQ models (Mercedes’ lingo for its electric line-up) models to India. The brand had already confirmed earlier it will be launching six new models in the second half of 2024 and the upcoming models confirmed for launch are the Maybach EQS and the electric avatar of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Pre-bookings for the electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class, officially called the G 580 with EQ technology have already commenced today. This finally concludes the arch that started with the showcase of the EQG Concept earlier this year at the inaugural Bharat Mobility earlier this year. One of the strongest and most formidable SUVs, the upcoming EQG will be powered by a massive 116 kWh battery pack with a behemoth 579 bhp and 1164 Nm output, and it will be available with an All-Wheel Drive system.
Performance-wise, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric can dash from 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds, despite weighing almost 3 tonnes. To extract the best out of the powertrain, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric is available with three drive modes, and two off-road modes.
On the other end of the spectrum sits the opulence of luxury and comfort with the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. First unveiled last year, luxury enthusiasts can finally rejoice for the brand has confirmed that the electric avatar of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS will be available and will launch too later this year.
Based on the same platform that also underpins its sedan counterpart, the Mercedes-Mayback EQS SUV features an extended wheelbase for added cabin space. The exterior design of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS is influenced by the brand’s ‘Sensual Philosophy’ design which is emphasized by its sleek styling with clean lines and a minimalistic aesthetic.
The EQS SUV will be powered by a 100 kWh battery that is good for a hugely impressive 600 km of range on a single charge. It does support fast charging capabilities, and the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 31 minutes. Performance-wise, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS has a 650 bhp/ 950 Nm output, which is enough to help it dash from 0-100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds (claimed) making it slightly quicker than the electric G-Class.
The exact date of launch of both these SUVs is yet to be revealed. But the fact that these two ultra-luxury SUVs from the German stable are set for Indian markets is a positive sign for the Indian EV scenario. For a healthy market for EVs, must have surely influenced Mercedes-Benz to bring two of its most high-end cars.
