Mercedes-Maybach is set to launch its fully electric EQS SUV in India on September 5. Upon its debut, it will be the company's most expensive electric vehicle in India. Although technical details remain undisclosed, the SUV is anticipated to be available in the 680 variant, which was first unveiled in April at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in China.
Internationally, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system similar to the EQS 580 SUV. This setup produces 649 bhp and 950 Nm of peak torque, with a claimed range of 600 km from a 107.8 kWh battery pack. The higher-tuned powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the EQS 580, and reach a top speed of 210 kmph.
The EQS measures 5125 mm in length, 2034 mm in width, and 1725 mm in height. Externally, the SUV features the iconic Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star logo on the hood, a black panel front with 3D vertical chrome-plated strips on the grille, and chrome accents on the front bumper. The sides showcase EQS lettering on the front window, Maybach badging on the D-pillar, and glossy trims on the door handles, pillars, window surrounds, and running boards. The rear includes large wheel arches, signature Maybach alloy wheels, an animated LED light strip, and chrome trim elements on the rear apron and tailgate. Dual-tone paint options are also available.
The global-spec version of the EQS 680 offers several premium features, including active ambient lighting with 253 LEDs and 64 selectable colours, powered curtains, Nappa upholstered seats, a second-row bench seat, and rear-seat infotainment controls. Additional features include a 15-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Passive electronic features include stability control, ABS, EBD, BBA, traction control, and hill hold assist. The electric SUV offers various drive modes: Eco, Sport, Offroad, Individual, and a Maybach mode that replaces the Classic Comfort mode.
At launch, the EQS 680 is expected to be priced around ₹4 crore (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive EV in India, positioned above the EQS 580 4Matic electric SUV, which has an ARAI-certified range of 857 km.
