MG Motor India is gearing up to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) in India, likely to be called the Cloud EV. The EV is expected to launch in India in the coming months and ahead of that, it has been spotted testing in India.
The Cloud EV will be a rebranded version of Wuling’s Cloud EV with the only difference being the badges. MG Motor India has already taken this path with the Comet, and along with new badges, it got a new name as well. The Wuling Air was renamed as the MG Comet and the Wuling Cloud could also be renamed in India.
While the spy shots of the upcoming MG Cloud EV are under heavy camouflage, it can be expected to get a full-width LED light bar at the front, a spilt-headlamp design, a front fender-mounted charging port, flush-mounted door handles and a light bar connecting the taillamps. The Cloud EV will also get thick, 5-spoke alloy wheels with a two-tone finish.
Inside, the Cloud EV is likely to come with front seats that recline fully and fold flat. It is also expected to get a freestanding, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, rose-gold accents in the interior, a 360-degree camera, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and more. For safety, it is expected to get four airbags, ESC, hill hold assist, ISOFIX, and ADAS among others.
The Cloud EV is likely to pack a 50.6 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 460 km. It is expected to be charged from 20 - 100 per cent in seven hours using an AC charger, while it takes 30 minutes to charge 30 - 100 per cent using a DC fast charger. Its front axle-mounted electric motor is expected to produce 134 bhp and 200 Nm. The Cloud EV measures 4295 mm, 1850 mm and 1652 mm in length, width and height, respectively and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm.
When launched, the Cloud EV is expected to rival the BYD e6 (₹29.15 lakh) as well as the upcoming Kia Carens EV. Expect the Cloud EV to be priced around ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
