MG Motor India has launched the M9 electric MPV at ₹69.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India), making it the most expensive product from MG to date. The M9 marks a significant step for the carmaker in the premium EV space, not only as a product but also as the debut model under its new 'MG Select' retail channel, a dedicated premium network with exclusive outlets in cities like Mumbai and New Delhi. While the pre-bookings are open at ₹1 lakh, the deliveries for the MG M9 will commence from August 10, 2025. You can read all about the MG M9 in our first drive review here.

Local Assembly Helps Manage Costs

Launched via the Semi Knocked Down (SKD) route, the M9 is locally assembled, which has helped MG contain the final pricing at ₹69.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This approach has made the M9 a more accessible offering compared to its high-end rivals, many of which are fully imported. Without SKD, pricing could have been significantly higher, further limiting its market reach in India.

Rivals

While the MG M9 doesn't have a direct all-electric rival, it competes with models like the Kia Carnival, Toyota Vellfire, and Lexus LM in the luxury MPV segment. However, all of these are either internal combustion or hybrid-powered, making the M9 the only fully electric offering in its class.

MG M9₹69.90 lakh
Kia Carnival₹63.91 lakh
Toyota Vellfire₹1.22–1.32 crore
Lexus LM₹2.10- ₹2.62 crore

Exterior with Premium Touches

Design-wise, the MG M9 carries the familiar upright van silhouette seen in most luxury MPVs, but MG has made a conscious effort to inject visual flair into the vehicle. A blanked-off grille and sharply styled front bumper lend it a bold face, complemented by sleek LED DRLs and angular headlight housings. The side profile is minimalistic but tastefully enhanced with chrome accents and large 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, a full-width connected LED tail lamp gives the M9 a modern, distinctive look.

Cabin Focused on Rear-Seat Experience

Inside, the M9 leans heavily into comfort and minimalism. The cabin uses a black-and-tan dual-tone theme, with a clean dashboard layout dominated by two screens, one for infotainment and another for the driver display. Touch-sensitive controls reduce clutter and add to the premium ambience. However, the true highlight lies in the second-row experience, designed with a chauffeur-driven clientele in mind.

Ottoman Seats and Boss Mode for Comfort

The M9 features two powered Ottoman seats in the middle row, offering 16-way adjustment, ventilation, heating, and massage functions. These seats are large enough to accommodate larger body frames and can be fully reclined to form a bed-like position. Additional features for rear passengers include rear entertainment screens, privacy sunblinds, and a segment-first panoramic sunroof that enhances the sense of space. MG has also added a powered 'boss mode' function, allowing second-row occupants to adjust the front passenger seat electronically for more legroom, an increasingly important feature in the luxury MPV segment.

Feature-Rich and Tech-Heavy

Beyond comfort, the M9 is packed with features aimed at both convenience and technology. These include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, powered front seats, a wireless phone charger, 3-zone climate control, keyless entry, a powered tailgate, and multiple sunroof configurations. The MPV also debuts MG’s first digital IRVM (internal rear-view mirror), which uses a rear camera feed to improve rear visibility, especially useful given the vehicle’s large dimensions.

The 12.3-inch unit is not the largest display that MG offers.

Audio Experience

In terms of entertainment, the M9 includes a 13-speaker JBL sound system, surpassing even the MG Gloster’s 12-speaker setup. This ensures a more immersive audio experience across all three rows, a notable inclusion for passengers accustomed to high-end in-cabin audio.

The MG M9 boasts a large boot space that is expandable. When all seats are in use, it offers 945 liters of storage, and this can be expanded to 1,720 liters when the rear seats are folded down

Practicality Enhanced with Frunk Storage

The M9 is also MG’s first vehicle in India to offer a frunk, a 55-litre front trunk located under the bonnet, offering additional storage space in an already capacious vehicle.

Safety with Advanced Driver Assistance

Safety has not been overlooked. The M9 includes 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. The MPV has also secured 5-star ratings in both Euro NCAP and ANCAP crash tests, adding to its credibility as a family-friendly luxury vehicle. However, it has not yet been crash tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP.

Performance and Range

On the performance front, the M9 is equipped with a 90 kWh NMC battery powering a single front-mounted motor that produces 242 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. MG claims a certified range of 548 km on a single charge, making it competitive with many luxury electric SUVs. The MPV also supports 160 kW DC fast charging, allowing a full recharge in approximately 90 minutes.

A Unique Proposition

What makes the MG M9 unique in the Indian market is its positioning as the only all-electric MPV in its segment. While models like the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM offer luxury MPV experiences, they remain internal combustion or hybrid-powered. This gives the M9 a distinctive edge for buyers specifically looking for a premium, chauffeur-driven EV alternative.
