The fourth-gen MINI Cooper S has a new design and many new features.

MINI India has launched the Cooper S at ₹44.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The hatchback is here in its fourth generation and comes with a new design and many new features. MINI India has also launched the Countryman SE in India, while BMW has launched the new 5 Series LWB.

The new Cooper S retains the iconic design with circular LED headlamps. The grille is now more hexagonal, with a thick bar running across the width. The new Cooper S also gets 18-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes on all four wheels. The taillamps get a new ‘Union Jack’ motif. MINI is offering the Cooper S in five dual-tone colours – Ocean Wave Green and Blazing Blue with a white roof and Sunny Side Yellow, British Racing Green and Chilli Red II with a Black roof.

Inside, the MINI Cooper S gets a 9.4-inch circular infotainment touchscreen with an OLED display that runs on Mini Operating System 9. All information that is generally shown in the driver’s display has now moved to the touchscreen. The MINI also has features like a fish-eye in-car camera, MINI Experience drive modes, connected car tech, digital key, power-adjustable seats with ADAS with 12 cameras.

Powering the Cooper S is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 201 bhp and 300 Nm, mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The MINI Cooper also gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 154 bhp and 230 Nm but that may not come to India.

While the MINI Cooper S doesn’t have a direct rival in India, it will see competition from the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW 2 Series, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
