Mitsubishi’s Elevance concept, debuts at Tokyo Motor Show with AI Co-driver, PHEV quad-motor powertrain, solar roof, and more.

Mitsubishi has showcased its Elevance Concept at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2025. It’s a plug-in hybrid SUV that could signal the return of a flagship model, possibly reviving the iconic Pajero nameplate.

AI Co-driver Takes Centre Stage

The standout feature is the AI Codriver system, which analyses driver habits and suggests personalised destinations based on lifestyle preferences. Displayed on the instrument cluster and a unique steering wheel screen, it processes real-time vehicle data and surroundings to enhance exploration and convenience.

Radical Exterior & Interior

The concept adopts Mitsubishi’s aggressive styling seen in recent models like Xforce and Destinator. It features multi-tier LED daytime running lights, a closed grille with honeycomb accents, and an evolved Dynamic Shield front.

The side profile includes a sharp C/D-pillar drop-off integrated with expansive rear lighting. A linear roofline is complemented by solar panels, a practical touch already used in vehicles like Genesis Electrified G80, though unlikely for production.

The cabin seats six across three rows, with second-row captain’s chairs and swivelling front seats for stationary face-to-face interaction. A panoramic screen spans from A-pillar to A-pillar, supplemented by exterior cameras for blind-spot views. A minimalist centre stack includes a single row of controls and a floating console with a large rotary dial.

Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

Mitsubishi has equipped the Elevance with a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system incorporating Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) and dual-motor Active Yaw Control at the rear.

This setup promises superior on-road handling and off-road capability with a comfortable ride. While a large-capacity battery is confirmed, specific powertrain details remain undisclosed.

Though not confirmed for production, the Elevance echoes Mitsubishi’s pattern of near-production-ready concepts. Reports suggest a Pajero revival could arrive by 2027, potentially sharing underpinnings with the Outlander in a unibody construction spanning around 4.9 metres.
