Will this adventure bike turn around Moto Guzzi’s fortune?
Moto Guzzi has unveiled its new adventure bike, bringing back the Stelvio name from oblivion. Think of it as a more road-oriented option when compared to Moto Guzzi's V85TT hardcore ADV bike. And the Italian firm has been smart about it as it has made use of the sporty V100 Mandello’s platform to build the new Stelvio on.
Powering the Stelvio is the same liquid-cooled, 1,042cc, 90-degree V-twin engine from the Mandello, which in typical Guzzi fashion is mounted transversely. This liquid-cooled V-twin ‘Compact Block’ engine is capable of churning out 115 bhp and 115 Nm of torque as seen on the Mandello, which remain the same here as well.
Despite sharing its chassis with the V100 Mandello, the Stelvio features a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cross-spoked wheel setup equipped with tubeless dual-purpose tyres. It also boasts adjustable suspension units for both the front and rear, ensuring versatile off-road performance. The Stelvio has a 21-litre fuel tank, a significant increase compared to the Mandello's 17-litre tank. This larger tank will contribute to the Stelvio being heavier, which would be quite a bit as the Mandello itself weighs 233 kilos wet.
Moto Guzzi Stelvio offers five customizable riding modes, ABS, traction control, and a user-friendly five-inch TFT display. It comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids, including cornering ABS and cruise control. This feature complements the existing adaptive aerodynamics carried over from the Mandello V100. All of these features are conveniently controlled via the same 5-inch TFT dash and switchgear shared with the Mandello V100 and the 2021+ Aprilia big bikes.
The Stelvio introduces an intriguing feature with the Piaggio Fast Forward Rider Assistance Solution. This advanced technology harnesses 4D Imaging Radar to provide safety enhancements such as collision detection, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Furthermore, Moto Guzzi offers a range of accessories, including heated seats, a capacious 52-litre top case, and panniers that seamlessly integrate with the Stelvio's design.
For all the undisclosed specifics about the Stelvio, stay tuned for the unveiling at EICMA, scheduled for November 7-12. The motorcycle will soon be launched in international markets, but it won't be available in India. However, if you're in the market for a road-focused adventure bike in a similar price range, alternatives like the Honda Africa Twin, Kawasaki Versys 1000, and Triumph Tiger 900 GT are worth considering.
