Indian e-mobility brand, Motovolt and German climate-tech firm Swobbee have announced a new strategic partnership that will oversee the launch of 200 new battery swapping stations across the nation in the next two years.
The first two stations have already been launched in Delhi and Kolkata, and are currently accessible to Motovolt’s commercial customers. Moving forward, the collaboration will also onboard other LEV OEMs.The Swobbe Battery Swapping Service stations have universal infrastructure solutions, therefore it can accommodate batteries from different manufacturers.
Motovolt has been an e-bike manufacturer brand in India since 2019. It has their own e-bike platform, powered by its own “Smart-EV Technology” with its in-house drivetrain design. Its portfolio includes a range of e-bikes, namely, Kivo 24, Kivo, HUM, Ice, Urbn e-bike and Kivo Easy. On the other hand, Berlin-based Climate tech firm Swobbee is the world's first manufacturer of independent battery swapping systems. The company already has collaborations with industry giants like Volkswagen, Total Energies, BP to name a few.
To support this “ambitious initiative” in India, the technological and capital investments required is more than “7 digits USD,” the press release stated. In the long term, this swapping battery station business is expected to generate over $10 million in revenue and achieve profitability status in the next five years.
Swobbee’s battery swapping service will offer subscription service that will give customers the “freedom from the necessity to purchase batteries upfront with the vehicle,” says Tushar Choudhary, Founder and CEO Motovolt Mobility. The subscription” policy will also ensure “optimal battery performance, safe and efficient charging, and proper disposal of end-of-life batteries,” he added.
Swobbee stations will initially target business customers, delivery and transport services, and it will be eventually trickle down private customer’s usage as well.
