Not that it has taken us by surprise, for after several subtle hints later – it is now official – former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the brand ambassador of Citroën India. The announcement comes fresh on the heels of the global debut of Citroën’s first coupe SUV, the Basalt. Which is slated for launch in the second half of 2024.

Speaking on the occasion of this new appointment, ‘Captain Cool’ said, “The Brand (Citroen) shares my commitment to electric mobility and sustainable solutions and like me, focuses on doing what matters.” As part of this new role, Citroen India will have a new campaign that will go live soon in the coming days.

Citroen Basalt: Key Highlights

The Citroen Basalt is the brand’s fifth model in India after the Citroen C5 Aircross, C3 Aircross, C3 and eC3. It is also the fourth ICE model based on the C-cubed programme. While the coupe SUV has just been revealed at the moment, it will launch in the country in the second half of 2024.

Based on the Citroen C3 Aircross, the Basalt carries forward the same fascia design, but from the B-pillar onwards, the sloping roofline helps it distinguish itself. Powering the Basalt will be the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 109 bhp and 205 Nm.

Aligning with the Government of India’s “Make In India” initiative, the Citroen Basalt will be manufactured at the marque’s Chennai plant and will also be exported to South American markets.
