Bentley has teased the upcoming fourth-generation Continental GT ahead of its global debut in June. While the images of the new Continental GT were under heavy camouflage, Bentley did mention that the fourth-generation model will come with a hybrid powertrain.
The new Continental GT will get a V8 engine mated to an electric motor and the powertrain will produce 771 bhp and 1,000 Nm. The hybrid powertrain will also have an electric-only range of 80 km. This isn’t Bentley’s first hybrid model but it is the first hybrid model to get a V8 engine. Other hybrids – Bentayga and Flying Spur – get a V6 engine instead.
Bentley also mentioned that the Continental GT will have four-wheel steering, all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, an electronic limited-slip differential, 48V electric anti-roll control and new dampers.
While the fourth-generation model is under heavy camouflage, the overall design looks quintessentially like a Continental GT. It has a similar profile as the previous model with a similar-looking glasshouse. Up front, the face of the new Continental GT will be a slight departure from the previous models as it’ll be the first one to not have a quad-headlamp design. The back, however, seems more similar to the previous model. Overall, it seems Bentley has opted for a more evolutionary design language with the new Continental GT.
Bentley also mentioned that the Continental GT will reach its 100,000th production milestone next year and will be built at the factory in Crewe, England. The Continental GT was first introduced in 2002 and helped increase Bentley’s sales from 1,000 units to 10,000 units annually in four years. The second-generation Continental GT was introduced in 2010, while the third generation came in 2018. While each generation was introduced at a gap of eight years, the fourth-generation model comes after just six years.
