2024

The BMW R18 is powered by a massive 1,800 cc, boxer-twin engine, and the same is expected to be carried over.

Continuing its tradition to reveal something new and unique at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW Motorrad is all set to reveal a new R nineT that will be based on the brand’s latest R18 cruiser motorcycle.

The R nineT moniker represents BMW Motorrad’s Heritage range of neo-retro naked motorcycles. Currently, two models are available under this moniker - R nineT roadster and R nineT Scrambler. Both are powered by an air/oil-cooled, 1,170 cc, twin-cylinder, boxer engine that is good for 109 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 115 Nm at 6000 rpm.

With the upcoming R nineT, it stands to gain the new 1,800 cc, boxer engine that BMW Motorrad debuted with the BMW R18. In the cruiser, the air/oil-cooled mill puts out 91 bhp and a humungous 158 Nm of peak torque. Whether BMW Motorrad maintains the same output figures with the roadster and scrambler motorcycles, remains to be seen. However, we do expect that the final drive ratio and the tune of power delivery will be altered to suit the characteristics of the bike.

To accommodate these bigger changes, BMW Motorrad will obviously be altering the chassis. However, details about the same and its body design are still scarce. A teaser image by BMW Motorrad’s CEO Markus Flasch, however, did confirm a few details.

For starters, that iconic muscular tank synonymous with R nineT will be retained, albeit with subtle changes to its shape and it might look slightly more muscular than before. The bobber-inspired floating seat design will be retained, and wider handlebars will ensure that the ergonomics is comfortable. Hardware components will consist of adjustable upside-down fork, most probably the same 46 mm units, and the cast aluminium single-sided swing arm with BMW Motorrad paralever, in both the roadster and scrambler models will most likely be retained.
