The government aims to convert all commercial vehicles into electric vehicles by 2027.

The Delhi government has revealed the key highlights of the new Delhi EV Policy 2.0. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reviewed the policy and it aims to make 95 per cent of all new vehicles registered in the national capital to be electric vehicles. The new policy has also proposed to convert all CNG autos, buses, taxis, and light commercial vehicles to be replaced by electric vehicles in a phased manner.

The policy also mentions that incentives will be provided for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-light commercial vehicles, and e-trucks. For that purpose, a dedicated State EV fund will also be created which will be created by sourcing green levies, pollution cess, and aggregator license fees.

Furthermore, the policy also outlines scrapping and retrofitting incentives which in turn will encourage conversions of ICE-powered vehicles to EVs. To support this growth of EVs, the government will also install more public charging points, and mandate charging stations in new upcoming public places and buildings. These charging stations will also stand to gain capital incentives. Lastly, fast-charging corridors will also be developed around important roads like Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Aside from establishing new infrastructures, the new policy has also considered skill development and job creation. For this purpose, it has roped in the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) to formulate training programmes for EV mechanics and drivers.

The execution of the new Delhi EV policy will be overlooked by the Delhi Clean Mobility Centre (DCMC). It will replace the current framework, which was introduced in 2020, and expires on March 31.
