The Amaze faces stiff competition from established players like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Aura.
The third-generation Honda Amaze has officially arrived, aiming to make a stronger mark in India’s highly competitive subcompact sedan segment. Honda has introduced several updates and enhancements to ensure the Amaze keeps pace with consumer expectations and rivals, most notably the segment leader, Maruti Suzuki Dzire. But can these changes translate into better sales and a more significant market share? Let's find out.
The Amaze now offers three variants—V, VX, and ZX—each available with manual and automatic transmissions. This inclusivity stands in contrast to some competitors, like the Dzire and Hyundai Aura, which restrict automatic options to mid- and top-tier variants. This strategy could make the Amaze appealing to a wider customer base, especially those looking for the convenience of an automatic at an affordable price.
The new Amaze’s design borrows heavily from its sibling, the Honda Elevate SUV, presenting a more mature and premium aesthetic. Inside, Honda has equipped the sedan with an array of modern features aimed at attracting tech-savvy buyers. These include an 8-inch free-standing infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Level 2 ADAS, a semi-digital instrument cluster, lane watch camera, wireless charging, automatic climate control, 6 airbags, and rear AC vents for added safety and comfort. However, the absence of a sunroof, ventilated seats, and leatherette upholstery might be a disappointment for those expecting a more luxurious experience.

Under the hood, the Amaze continues with its tried-and-tested 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Producing 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque, the engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. While it delivers a competitive mileage of 19.46 km/l for the automatic and 18.65 km/l for the manual, the absence of a CNG powertrain stands out. Given the increasing consumer preference for CNG models due to lower running costs, this could limit the Amaze's appeal, particularly among budget-conscious buyers.
The Amaze faces stiff competition from established players like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Aura. Among these, the Dzire continues to dominate the segment, combining reliability, extensive features, and Maruti’s widespread service network. Its recent facelift has added premium touches and new technology, making it a formidable competitor.
