Honda has teased its upcoming third-generation Amaze subcompact sedan, sparking anticipation in global markets ahead of its debut in India next year. This marks the latest update for Honda’s popular entry-level sedan, a mainstay in markets like India, where subcompact sedans are highly competitive. Bookings for the new Amaze are anticipated to start next month, with the official reveal expected soon after.
The new Amaze features sharper, slimmer headlamps compared to its predecessor, with a pronounced angular shape, adding to its modern, refined look. The higher variants are likely to continue with LED projector headlights, while Honda’s signature DRLs sit atop the headlamp unit merging into the redesigned grille which now takes on a larger hexagonal shape with a honeycomb pattern. A prominent chrome bar runs across the top of the grille, connecting the headlamps and adding visual width. The front bumper integrates large air dam recesses on both corners, which may include darkened inserts on higher trims.
Spy shots from recent months have suggested a slab-sided profile with clean lines and minimal surface detailing. Additional design touches observed include a possible smoky finish on the tail lamps and a subtle yet modern aesthetic that aligns with Honda’s efforts to elevate the Amaze’s styling.
Under the hood, the new Amaze is expected to carry forward Honda's proven 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic option. Honda is reportedly considering the addition of a CNG variant to the Amaze lineup, although specific details on this option are yet to be confirmed.
The launch of the new Amaze comes at a strategic time, as it will directly compete with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Dzire, scheduled for a launch on November 11, 2024. The Dzire, one of the best-selling models in India’s compact sedan segment, will be a formidable rival. Additionally, the Hyundai Aura continues to be a strong contender, offering a similar combination of design, efficiency, and affordability.
